When multiple National champion and Team England Commonwealth Games rider Dan Bigham entered Banbury Star CC’s Wednesday evening 20km time trial a new course record was always a possibility. Making the evening even more special for the club was the first appearance this year of the current course record holder Jon Simpkins, who set a time of 25.54 in 2012.
With strong cross winds on many sections of the course, most of the riders agreed the conditions were not ideal for fast times. However, Bigham, riding for Ribble Pro Cycling, truly showed his class by not only winning by a margin of 2m.02s over Simpkins, but also broke his six year old record by 33 seconds. Five mile TT winner Richard Jennings was third on 27.40 with Simon Kisley the first Star rider in fourth on 28.43.
Dan Bigham on record pace
This was probably one of the strongest Wednesday night entries the club has had for some time with the first eight riders all getting under 30 minutes. Dan Bigham has said he’ll be back again later in the season, so in perfect conditions, could he break into the 24’s?
