The club’s 2019 season gets underway this coming Sunday with our annual Open Hardriders TT. Due to traffic lights and then snow drifts, last year’s event had to be altered and finally cancelled at short notice, so everyone’s hoping that the good weather continues into the weekend.
As the name implies, this is a tough 23 mile time trial, held entirely on the A422 and taking in both a descent and return ascent of the long steep 17% Sunrising Hill. Starting outside Wroxton village hall at 10am, the course takes the riders to the A422/A429 roundabout just outside Ettington and then returns to the finish at the entry into Wroxton.

As a season opener the 64 rider entry has again attracted some of the region’s best time triallers. This includes a record number of 25 Star riders, including 4 women, making up over a third of the entry.
In their club start order, the riders are, Marin Kelly, Katherine Daniels, Stuart Quick, Mike Gillett, Mike Hicks, Mark Davis, Lee Heron, Naomi de Pennington, Will Morgan, Simon Bull, Helen French, Mark Boyles, Mike Kirby, Matt Sleath, Suzy Patience, Stephen Haynes, Roger Foster, Pete Belsey, Rich Collier, Sam Wootton, Tobias Wiesand, Ian Maconnachie, Jonathon Ward, Michal Wisowski and Simon Kisley.
Tobias Wiesand is probably the club’s strongest rider, while Suzy Patience will be hoping to add to her women’s win in the club’s September Open 10 mile TT. Jack O’Neill from Team Jewson won the event in 2017 and he returns to defend his title. He’s the current course record holder with a time of 51min 38sec, so will be a hard man to beat.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help out with marshalling and other duties on the day. However, there’s always a chance we made need some additional help, so don’t be afraid to call into the HQ at Wroxton Sports Club áround 9am.
There will be no club rides on the day.
