A dry, but breezy evening greeted the 43 riders who turned out for the club’s annual Interclub TT against local clubs AMG Mercedes from Brackley and our regular visitors Team Cherwell. Road works right on the normal finish line meant the regular K4/20 course had to be shortened by around 400 metres, so no records were at risk.
Even with this slight reduction in distance a sub 30 minute time is still an excellent ride and the strength of the field illustrated this with fourteen riders getting below this time and with close times throughout the field.
The team competition is decided by the combined times of the first five riders from each of the three competing teams. Fastest of all and leading the Team Cherwell charge was 18 year old Blaine Carpenter, who put in an amazing ride with a time of 26.51, beating regular pace setter Jon Simpkins, who was not part of the competition, by 26 seconds. Fastest Star rider home was Tobias Wiesand on 27.21, while AMG’s fastest rider was Dan Chambers on 28.22.

However, despite Blaine’s excellent ride, when all the times were added up Banbury Star just beat Team Cherwell by 1 minute 23 seconds. Team times: 1. Banbury Star CC: 145 mins 16 secs, 2.Team Cherwell: 146 mins 39 secs, 3.AMG/Mercedes:158 mins 06 secs.
There was another good turn-out of 12 women riders, which again included the ever improving 14 year old new club member Peggy Simpkins who set a time of 38.27. Naomi de Pennington was again first home on 30.12, then Annie Heaney on 31.16 and Suzy Patience on 31.54.
