The Seven Cols is a route devised by Banbury Star member Keri Williams which heads out of town and tackles seven of the toughest climbs on the escarpment that lies to the northwest of Banbury. In his own words you can read all about the course in our blog article:
For 2021 are running a competition to see who can record the fastest attempt at the route, with prizes beyond your most wild of dreams on offer for the fastest in each category. All you have to do is enter your total elapsed time from the start at the Dukes Meadow roundabout, around the course and end at the B4100 turn to Horley when approaching Banbury (so not the moving time) and provide a link to your ride into this form for the umpires to then adjudicate. You can ride as many times as you like before the competition closes and on any bike that isn’t electric, the only rule is you have to ride alone, so no pacing or drafting allowed!
It’s a good test of energy management and pacing for any rider that attempts it, irrespective of ability, and has a Strava segment of its own:
What goes up must come down so please take care on the descents, some of which are quite fast and “enjoy” slippery road surfaces, especially when wet and the usual club ride rules apply regarding liability.
