The forecast of grey skies didn’t put off the huge crowd of 56 riders who assembled at Ludlow Drive for the first time trial of 2017 around the popular K4/20 12.4m course in the traditional two-up format. As well as racers from Banbury Star CC, Team Cherwell and Cherwell Runners and Joggers also had strong representation.
As it turned out, the sun shone but the expected north-westerly breeze contributed to make for difficult conditions on the first uphill leg from the start line and up the B4100 Warwick Road to Camp Lane with a head-wind the entire way. Significantly higher speeds were recorded on the fresh tarmac surface through Edge Hill village and those speeds increased yet further on the final Stratford Road section due to the combination of gentle downhill and strong tailwind.
The top three times were all achieved by single riders:
Billy Leason 28m15s
Simon Kisley 30m45s
Darren Alexander 30m50s
The fastest pair were Lisa Rogers and Cameron Foster who finished in 31m12s
Next week’s time trial is back to solo riding and once more on the K4/20 course with sign-on at Ludlow Drive from 5.30pm onwards.
