Three Banbury Star riders, Liam Fishwick, Barry Duplock and Michal Wisowski braved Saturday’s extreme cold and windy weather to compete in round 3 of the Milton Keynes Bowl Crit Series.
The 40 rider field endured a race duration of 50 minutes, plus 5 laps on the closed circuit course, battling against a strong sharp wind and horizontal snow flurries, making visibility difficult.
Initially three riders broke away, gaining almost half a lap on the main peloton, but the three Star riders stuck together and worked hard as a team, pushing to the end to try and gain valuable points. This strategy worked well for Michal who finished an excellent 4th, while Barry finished 13th and Liam 15th.
Michal’s achievement was particularly rewarding, as following a last minute decision to race, he arrived only seconds before the start with no time to warm up. More importantly, following a win earlier in the season at Abingdon, he gained enough points on the day for promotion to 3rd Cat status.
That’s another great achievement for the efforts of the race squad, with the club’s third rider gaining 3rd Cat status so early in the season.
