The first of Banbury Star CC’s longer distance time trials took place last night with the 25 mile Friswell Cup event. Starting outside the Herb Centre the course is entirely on the B4100 with a run up to the second Hanwell roundabout before heading back to the roundabout at Gaydon. From there it’s back again, this time climbing Warmington Hill, to the finish near Hanwell. A tough course, which still attracted a strong 29 rider entry.
With no national champions competing this week, regular visitor and course record holder Jon Simpkins scored a dominant win with a time of 56m.02s. This was 2m.45s ahead of another visitor Tobias Wiesand, with Simon Kisley third and Simon Smith fourth – all with times under the hour mark. Simon Kisley was the first club member home and therefore winner of the Friswell Cup.
