Banbury Star CC entered two men’s and two women’s teams for Tuesday night’s open 4 up team time trial at RAF Weston on the Green. After the home and organising club, Bicester Millennium CC, this was the largest club entry amongst the 29 teams competing. Four laps of the perimeter road course made up the 10 mile race distance, with the overall time taken as the third rider crossed the finish line.
A warm still evening produced some fast and close times with Didcot Tifosi winning with a time of 19.54. Banbury Star Men’s B team, comprising Simon Kisley, Jonathan Ward, Mark Boyles and Lee Heron finished 7th on 22.19 and the A team 14th on 25.04. Both women’s teams finished towards the end of the field, but their pacing was excellent and most are completely new to competition. Just 12 months ago the club had difficulty in recruiting women members for mixed team entries and now the women’s section is going from strength to strength.
