Big Mac retains downhill crown

Banbury Star CC club secretary Ian Maconnachie again showed off his downhill speed by winning the club’s annual downhill freewheel race on Saturday for a second time. Held at Hempton Hill, just off the B4031 near Deddington, with pedalling banned, the course has a mid-section rise and the trick is to get over this to stand any chance of winning. Last year several riders failed to crest the rise, but thanks to a tail wind only one rider failed this time.

Downhill Stars – Kisley, Maconnachie and Foulks

Whilst Ian won, he only claimed victory by less than a metre from TT ace Simon Kisley. Simon clearly took things seriously, trying to add to his 2018 trophy collection, by driving out to the event and then donning his aero-helmet and skin suit. Darrel Foulk finished a fine third and the rest all finished safely with big smiles. Thanks to Chris Bagnall and Ila Pearson for marshalling.
