An overcast, but dry evening with a fresh breeze, made for a somewhat reduced field of 19 riders who turned out for the club’s final 10 mile Wednesday TT of the season – a good test before the club’s Open 10 mile TT on Saturday 31st August. The remaining time trials will be on the regular 20km/13m course, with the final 5 mile Come & Try TT at Gaydon on Wednesday 4th September.
The circular K4/10C1 course starts and finishes in Tysoe, passing through Oxhill and Whatcote and is fast and relatively flat, with a course record of 21.50 set last year by pro-rider George Pym. With a strong headwind on the exposed outward leg that record was never in danger, but winner Simon Bull put in a great effort to record a time of 23.02. Return visitor Dan Chambers was 30 seconds behind, just 12 seconds ahead of third placed Ben Heaney (Team Cherwell).
Simon Bull was the clear winner
Again Naomi de Pennington showed she’s really on form at the moment, finishing in an excellent fourth place overall on 24.40, just 98 seconds off Simon Bull’s winning time. Team Cherwell’s Denise Shepherd and Annie Heaney were the second and third women home.
