A Star who has been travelling afar to compete in TTs is Lee Heron, who represented Banbury Star over the weekend down in Abergervenny, Gwent, where he rode in the Cardiff 100 Road Club’s 50 mile Open TT.
The R50/1b course is predominantly dual carriageway and doesn’t give riders an easy time with a fair bit of climbing, totalling over 1400 feet. Riders start and finish at the same place on the A40; head east towards Monmouth on the A-road before turning back and heading west towards Abergavenny. The event takes two laps to complete the 50 miles with the sheerest of climbs set around 9 and 34 miles into the course.
Conditions were near perfect, with light cloud, 15 degrees and a 5 mph wind, which assisted Lee to beat his previous PB, despite the climbing. He finished 29th out of 67 starters, with a time of 2.01.31.
The winner Conrad Moss (NOPINZ) dominated the event with a 3 minute margin of victory and completing back to back victories, with a time of 1.39.40.
Lee’s next destination is in the vicinity of Biggleswade this coming Saturday for Northampton & District CA’s 25 mile TT on their F14/25 course. However, Lee says that “looking at the forecast, finishing will be an achievement, never mind a PB”.
