We held a successful first club time trial for 2020 on Wednesday 15th with 50 riders pre-registering to race on the Gaydon 10 mile Open route and some excellent times were set highlighting many members have been putting in the training miles during lockdown. Our next time trial is over the same distance but on the somewhat flatter K4/10C course on the A361 road between South Newington and Chipping Norton.
It’s an interclub event too with our fast friends from the Mercedes F1 team coming along to join Banbury Star and Team Cherwell to show us a clean pair of heels. Could this be the year that Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas turn up on two wheels? We’ll find out very soon…..
The time trial is also open to guests from other clubs around the region, last year Trek Segafredo pro-rider Charlie Quarterman (then Holdsworth Zappi) rocked up and smashed the course record in the process.
Please remember that for 2020 a working rear light is mandatory
Race Registration
Only riders who have pre-registered will be able to race, for this season we cannot accept on the evening entries. The link to register is at the bottom of this page. Registration closes at 5pm on the Tuesday and we will be sending out an email that evening to let entrants know if they have been successful (in case of over subscription) and also their start number. We will also be holding a Zoom video conference on Tuesday to talk riders through the changes for the 2020 season that we have imposed because of Covid-19.
Race HQ
Race number collection starts at 6pm at the car park by Heath Farm holiday cottages and closes at 6.40pm and the first rider will be off at 7.01pm. Please remember that for 2020 a working rear light is mandatory. Please note there are no toilets available here. It is mandatory for all riders and officials to maintain a 2m social distancing gap from everyone else at all times.
Parking is limited at the HQ location but the lovely people at The Boxing Hare just along the road going towards Chipping Norton have kindly allowed us to use their car park which is much bigger so if you arrive at Heath Farm and we’re full please just drive along the road for a minute where there are more than enough spaces.
Race Officials
Timekeepers: Keri Williams and Oli Wright
Pusher: n/a

Race Route
Competitors start on the quiet B4031 at the top of Iron Down Hill and continue until they reach the junction with A361 after about 700m where a left turn is made. It’s a straight road on to Chipping Norton where a turn is made at the first roundabout to head back down the A361 with hopefully the benefit of a prevailing tailwind to help add to the speed which is already boosted due to the road’s negative gradient. The finish is on the main road, just before the turn back to the race HQ.
