Welcome to BSCC’s Thursday Zwift Race
Given the success and demand of the recent 5 Event Series and the undoubted need you all have for racing, there will be a continued series of races held every Thursday evening at 19:00 from 18th February. Given the racing has been exceptionally close within the categories used, we will continue to publish the pure times, but we will also have additional groupings based on category and potential handicaps, but remember, it’s all just for fun 🙂
The races will use the Zwift Meetup with “Race Results” function which will be the sole means of capturing the results. Unfortunately as with the previous Series, we will not be starting in the special start pens that other Zwift events use, but all riders will line up on the side of the road. These are going to more like Crit races than TT’s as drafting is enabled along with Zwift boosts which adds a layer of tactics to the evenings fun.
Being Zwift Meetups with Race Results, it does mean that Late Join is not available so you must be at the start on time! We will use Meetup Only view so we will appear to be the only people on the course.
Most races will be over short flat routes, usually Tempus Fugit or Tick Tock, but will occasionally throw a treat your way.
Based off the experiences from the 5 Stage series, there are now 5 categories that racers will be assigned into and handicaps allocated accordingly, expect some very close final results where every second can make a real difference. Points system will be a little different this time, and will generally match those used in F1 which should mean more people have chances of good points and consistency will be rewarded. The winner receives 25Â points, the second-place finisher 18Â points, with 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1Â points for positions 3 through 10, respectively. Had this been in place for the 5 Stage Series, the same 3 would have been at the top, but in a slightly different order!
All competitors will be encouraged to join the Facebook Rooms session so that everyone can watch the pain, whether competing or not, honest, it’s not just a heavy breathing session. For anyone that wants to see what’s going on, I can enable screen sharing and you will be able to see our onscreen fun as well.
Unlike the last series, this is open to anyone but priority will go to BSCC members, followed by Term Cherwell and then everyone else should we get near the Meetup limits.
If you have any comments or suggestions then please let me know.
Do remember, referees decision is final…..ME 🙂
If you would like to join, please ensure you follow “Andy Perry BSCC/BCCEN” on Zwift and let me know you would like an invite
Thursday 18th February @ 19:00 We will start off on Tempus Fugit for a fast out and back race of 18.2km. As this route is nearly pan-flat, aero rules the day. Get the most slippery frame and wheels you can afford! (Don’t forget, TT frames cannot draft, so unless you plan on being out front solo, it’s not the best bike to use)
