The first easing of lockdown allowed the club’s 2021 Wednesday evening TT season to finally get underway last night – and what a start. A perfect bright, warm and still evening, an oversubscribed 45 rider entry, lots of personal best times and course records broken.
Held on the club’s 5 mile, Gaydon to Kineton and back K4/5 course, this event always produces some close times and is also popular with first timers who want to give time trialling a go.
Whilst times were again generally close, the winner, last year’s top club rider Luke Norris, stopped the clock at 10m.16s. his margin over second placed Daniel Marron being 24 seconds. What’s more, Luke lowered the club record by an amazing 56 seconds. The record stood at 11m.12s. and it should be pointed out that 5 riders on the night got below that time. Anthony Harriss finished third on 11m.00s., while regular visitor Ben Heaney (Team Cherwell) was the first non-Star rider home in fourth on 11m.07s.
Another club record for Luke Norris
In the women’s category of ten riders, times were also close, particularly at the front of the field. Naomi de Pennington and Lydia Watts (Liv AWOL) resumed their many battles from last season with Naomi coming out on top by just 5 seconds on 12m.01s. This placed her eleventh overall, as well as beating Lydia’s previous outright women’s course record. Only 2 seconds behind Lydia in third was Sian Marsh on 12m.08s.
