Marron and Watts are the stars of large entry

Following on from the club’s 2 Up TT last week, it was back to normal solo competition on Wednesday night, again held on the club’s popular K4/20 13mile/20km course. On another cold, but dry night, a near maximum entry of 57 competitors turned out, which included another good mix of juniors, women and relative newcomers, as well as a strong field of experienced riders.

Danny Marron on his way to his 3 second win

Whilst the conditions were never going to produce record times, the pace of the leading riders was still fast and very close, with the first 13 riders all getting below the magic 30-minute mark. Setting fastest time of the night was one half of last week’s winning 2 Up duo, Danny Marron, who stopped the clock on 28m.01s. Just 3 seconds back was former club record holder Jon Simpkins (Drag2Zero), who is still able to provide strong competition to the up-and-coming younger riders. Only 11 seconds further back was Mark Ellis in third place.

Lydia Watts back to winning ways

In the women’s category Lydia Watts and Naomi de Pennington continued their close and friendly rivalry. On the first 5-mile TT of the season Naomi came out on top by 5 seconds, but this time on the longer course, Lydia triumphed by 35 seconds, setting a time of 31m.17s. However, they clearly have challengers in Sian Marsh 32m.09. and Annie Heaney 32m.19, who are gradually getting closer.
