Stars take team placings at Coventry CC’s 10-mile Open Time Trial

Thanks to Mark Davis for writing this full report on today’s Coventry TT

At last, the weather warmed up and with it, ten Stars turned out in force, on Sunday, at what has become a favourite event on a fast out-and-back course along the A45. The course starts near Dunchurch and heads out towards Ryton-on-Dunsmore before turning back at the half way point.  A total of 150 men and women started today’s ‘race of truth’ and the forecast of favourable wind conditions of 5mph or less gave the expectation of some good times being returned by the riders and happily, this turned out to be the case.

Again, our two regular top finishers at the weekly BSCC times trials, Naomi de Pennington and Luke Norris produced their usual top-quality form by taking 3rd and 4th place in their respective women’s and men’s individual categories. This was very respectable given the high-quality competition with some of the country’s best riders taking part.  Both riders beat their previous best times; Naomi with 23m:19s and Luke completing his first sub-20-minute 10-mile TT with 19m:58s.  Congratulations!

As if this wasn’t a good enough return on results, BSCC took first place in the women’s team event with an aggregate time of 1hr:17m:38s having finished over a minute faster than the second placed team.  Naomi’s time of 23m:19s has already been mentioned, however, a huge ‘well-done’ also to Fay Barrington (25m:16s) and Katherine Daniels (29m:03s) who worked hard to gain this commendable top team result.

BSCC also took third place overall in the men’s team event with an aggregate time of 1hr:03m:21s, which included Luke’s time of 19m:58s and Danny Marron’s of 21m:13s together with Luke’s dad, Matt Norris, coming in at 22m:10s. Is there anyone else in the Norris family who can be coerced into doing time trials?! A big well done to all three.

Other BSCC riders were in the mix and enjoying their own individual competitions with one-another and in doing so, several produced personal bests for a 10-mile time trial. The complete list of BSCC riders today were:

Luke Norris 19m:58s

Danny Marron 21m:13s

Matt Norris 22m:10s

Steve Goddard 22m:14s

Mark Davis 22m:42s

Naomi de Pennington 23m:19s

Will Morgan 23m:40s

Fay Barrington 25m:16s

Paul Whitehouse 25m:18s

Katherine Daniels 29m:03s

Well done everyone on producing some great times and for helping to promote BSCC on a National stage!
