Last night saw 8 Stars out and about competing in both a time trial and crit race.
Nearer home, four juniors Henry Martin, Jorgie Gillett, Sam Martin and Poppy Kisley, were joined by Ila Pearson and Graham Martin at the weekly Weston on the Green TT. Organised by Bicester Millennium CC, these weekly summer TTs are run on the safe RAF Weston on the Green airfield, a venue ideal for juniors to get into racing.
Their times on the night, for the 10-mile distance, were as follows; Henry 51:57, Jorgie 37:35, Poppy 28:57 and Sam 32:23, who managed to knock about 2 minutes off his previous best time. Ila managed 28.06, with Graham finishing an excellent joint second on 22:38.
Meanwhile, further away at Thruxton circuit, the competitive duo of father and son – Matt and Luke Norris – were trying their first ever crit race. This is a completely different discipline, where tactics, patience, timing and positioning take some time to understand. Not surprising perhaps, Luke went on a solo attack for 4 laps, but then sensibly dropped back into the pack to save some legs for the inevitable sprint finish. He ended up 4th, which he was very pleased with and an excellent start to racing. Father Matt had an awesome strong ride, ending up 13th, only a few days after riding the Hardriders TT.
Matt Norris prepares to start at Thruxton
What out, the Norris family seem to have already caught the racing bug, as both are doing Dalton Barracks race on Saturday.
