A Smart win on a night of close times

After a few weeks away, the club’s Wednesday night TT returned to its natural home, the K4/20 – 13 mile/20 km course. With this change came a larger field, who were greeted by a warm and sunny evening, but the challenge of a fresh breeze on the outward leg. Whilst these conditions did not produce any record times, the times themselves were very close – the first two women tied and only 4 seconds separated the first two men.

Three club juniors took part, with 12-year-old Sam Martin, (chaperoned by father Graham), took part in his first club TT, posting a time of 50.07. Poppy Kisley continues to improve with a time of 38.20, while Peggy Simpkins was one of the stars of the night, with a time of 35.24, placing her third in the field of 10 women.

Another rider putting in a great effort was Annie Heaney (Team Cherwell), who after competing in an Ironman Triathlon at the weekend, managed to tie with the club’s record-breaking Naomi de Pennington. Both of them stopped the clocks at 31.40, the 12th fastest time overall.

Drag2Zero’s Simon Smart, who is also a second claim member, was the night’s winner

The men’s category was a very close battle between two very experienced riders, both wearing the team shirts of Drag2Zero. That’s the Silverstone based company run by winner on the night Simon Smart, whose time of 27.46, beat past record holder Jon Simpkins by just 4 seconds. In third place was Ben Heaney (Team Cherwell), who had also competed in an Ironman at the weekend.
