Newbould wins again and juniors set records

The club’s Wednesday evening TT season was back again to its natural home – the 13-mile K4/20 course – with a strong entry of 38 riders. With the club’s regular time keepers all unavailable on the night, an excellent team of volunteers, ably led by Mark Davis, kept the show on the road.

A slightly tricky wind, tractors on the course and a lot parked cars by the Castle Inn at Edgehill made for some challenging conditions. In spite of this, the top ten riders all got under the 30-minute barrier and two more club records were broken.

The two records were broken by the club’s juniors, with Louis Bushby leading the way, taking 1m.22s. off the 2017 U18 male record. His exceptional time of 28.54, placed him 7th overall. The other record – 35.24 – was set by Poppy Kisley, who knocked 27 seconds off the U16 female record, set in June by her main competitor Bella Boyles. Special mention must go to 12-year-old Owen Anderson, competing in his first club TT, setting a fine time of 43:40.

Another good entry of 11 riders made up the women’s category, with again Naomi de Pennington leading the way. Her time of 30.34, was only 2 seconds off her club course record and placed her 12th overall. In second place was Fay Barrington on 32.53 with Heidi Yates third on 33.52.

Fastest rider on the night and repeating his win on this course back in mid-June was club member Josh Newbould, with a time of 27.27. In second place, just 12 seconds adrift, was Simon Smart (Drag2Zero) on 27.39, with fellow team rider Jon Simpkins, third on 28.03
