A good contingent of club riders was out racing over the weekend at two local 10-mile TTs – eight at Coventry CC on Saturday and four at Didcot Phoenix CC on Sunday.
The Coventry event took place on a windy, but warm afternoon, on the K11/10 course, which is out and back along the A45. The course tends to be faster on the way out than on the way back, but with a crosswind it made it interesting in both directions. The eight Star riders, comprised four women and four men.
It was another good performance for the ladies as Sian Marsh took third place overall (23.05) with Naomi de Pennington fourth, only 1 second behind. Fay Barrington was fifth and together with Heidi Yates in twelfth, they won the women’s team competition.
The men had a good day also with Josh Newbould carrying on his good form coming in fourth overall with a time of 20.41. Solid times from Stuart Quick, Josh Lovell and Mike Gillett meant the men also finished second in the men’s team competition.
Sunday’s Didcot Phoenix event took place on their H10/17R course – a relatively flat, out and back route on the A420. Favourable conditions greeted the riders with a nice tailwind on the way out, but the wind in your face on the shorter way back.
Four club riders took part, with both Josh Lovell and Mike Gillett competing in their second TTs of the weekend. Josh set a PB and a time of 22.17, with Mike’s time 26.31. Fastest club rider was Simon Bull on 21.24, which placed him 9th overall and Mark Boyles set a time of 22.49. Had a team prize been on offer, BSCC would have won.
Fastest time of the day was 19.37, set by John Mulvey (Upshift Nutrition RT).
