Norris crowns his season with Open win – Bosma breaks women’s record

Luke Norris has had some great results this year, but winning his own club’s Open TT is probably the most significant and rewarding yet, particularly as he finished second last year.

The annual Open 10-mile TT, is the club’s final large event of the year and took place in near perfect dry and sunny conditions, with little or no breeze, and due to its early 8am start, very little traffic. The 62-rider entry, comprised some very fast competitors from visiting clubs, in addition to 31 club members, which included four juniors.

The course is held entirely on the B4100 road, starting just before the fast descent of Warmington hill. Riders then head out to the roundabout turning point at Gaydon, finishing just before the turn off to Warmington village. The outright course record is 20.14, set by last year’s winner.

The club’s four junior riders entered, Bella Boyles, Poppy Kisley, Peggy Simpkins and Alex Putt, all in their early teens, put in some great rides with Peggy setting the fastest time of 28.08.

Thirteen riders competed in the women’s category, which was totally dominated by Anneleen Bosma (Bianchi Dama) who finished 8th overall. Her time of 22.51 lowered the women’s record by 1.46 and put her just over 3 minutes ahead of Lydia Watts (Liv AWOL). In third place, just 8 seconds further back, was the first club member Fay Barrington on 28.08.

Seeded to start last, the pressure was always on club member Luke Norris to win his home Open TT. His fast outward leg to the Gaydon roundabout indicated he was well on course to achieve this goal and his eventual time of 20.40, gave him a clear 51 second victory. In second place was Ben MacKinson (Apache Brave Racing) on 21.31, with Chris Spencer (Royal Leamington Spa CC) only 9 seconds back on 21.40. Club members Josh Newbold, Graham Martin and Matt (father of winner Luke) Norris all finished in the top ten.
