The warm weather helped inspire our juniors to race hard at the weekend. At 2 different venues.
On Saturday Caleb Smith, Sam Martin and Poppy Kisley, raced at the Curborough circuit near Litchfield. A sprint circuit usually for car racing being utilised by Litchfield CCC in the Zipvit Youth Races a 5 race series, with a round every month from March to July.
Caleb was out first in the U10 boys race, performing very well on a tricky circuit , finishing 11th, after being very competitive in the bunch. Sam Martin raced in the U14 boys, finishing in a time of 41.46 in 12th place from a field of 17. In the U16 girls, Poppy Kisley went in her first of two races over the weekend, finishing 5th. Another brilliant performance from all of them, setting high standards and flying the flag for the club.
On Sunday it was back to Hillingdon for the final round in the Hillingdon Slipstreamers Series. A cooler day, than most of the previous week, however did not cool the competitive spirit of our young racers.
In the U10 race, Henry Boyles and Jorgi Gillet lined up in a big field of riders. Early in the race 2 boys got away from the rest of the field and eventually caught up with the Under 12 race. Henry, determined to make a mark, settled into a group of 3 who worked hard together to pull each other along, this ended in a bunch sprint at the finish for 3rd position. Henry, just getting squeezed into 5th place on the line. In the girls Jorgi got into the lead from the start and maintained her position, despite the girl in 2nd trying hard to hang onto Jorgi. Jorgi pushed and crossed the line to an excellent win.
Poppy Kisley, with very little recovery time from her efforts at Litchfield, went with Bella Boyles in the U16 Girls race. They both suffered poor starts after poor communication from the officials, starting with the boys race. One girl got away on the boys start , whilst Poppy and Bella were waiting for the start of the girls race. They as usual worked well together trying to get back and contest the remaining positions. They ended in a bunch sprint for the line with Poppy taking 2nd and Bella 3rd.
Sam Martin was also out and about for the 2nd time in a weekend. Competing in the U14 boys. He was feeling his way a little bit, having crashed at a previous week’s race at the Hillingdon circuit and also suffering with heavy legs from the Saturdays’ efforts at Litchfield. Sam , will be pleased with a 12th position finish and putting any demons to bed after the previous crash.
Our juniors are certainly showing a fighting spirit and proving to be very competitive in the various races and are incredible that some of them race twice over a weekend. They can be very proud of themselves as the Club is. Congratulations to all of them.
