Peggy Simpkins one of Banbury Stars junior racers, proved herself to be very competitive at the recent Junior National Championships at the end of May.
The TT and Road Race, took place in North Yorkshire on a dry, sunny but windy weekend, which became a strong cross wind on the 17.5km circuit. The route which tackled the tough steep climb of Bulmer Bank (1 in 6) followed by twisty lanes, an exposed cross wind section, and then a drag up through Terrington, to total 275m of climbing.
Peggy found herself up against World Junior Champion Zoe Backstedt – Acrog-Tormans and showed herself to be very competitive in the field finishing in an excellent 15th place with a time of 34.53.54.
The event was won by a dominant Backstedt in a time of 27.05.41 and she would also to go on to win the road race the following day.
Peggy was again in the mix, on the 42 mile road race, very hilly tough course. But she was unfortunate to suffer a puncture on the first lap, just as she was getting into a group behind the main peloton and this meant that she was unable to finish.
Excellent work by Peggy, we are in awe of your efforts.
