Stars racing already

As has been explained and promoted in both the club’s weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter, the racing season started in February. The race calendar of local events, covering, TTs, road races and crit series is now up on the website and will be added to as the season progresses.

Three club members, Richard Santhouse, Josh Lovell and Danny Marron, were quick out the blocks and started their 2023 season on Saturday 4th February. They entered the Cat 4 race at round 1 of the annual ART Winter Crit Series, now in its 8th year, held as usual at Dalton Barracks, near Abingdon.

It was a chilly Saturday morning,  when the boys decided to test how their winter training had come along. The recent bad weather hadn’t given them any chance to get in any team training or tactics, so they got there early to have a quick talk on our strengths and tried to make a plan.

Spot the three Stars – they’re there

The first couple of laps were slow as it had been a while since everyone had last raced. The race distance was 45 minutes, plus 3 laps of the course and half way in, Richard followed an attack along with 9 others, but after a lap they were soon caught. It came to a bunch sprint at the end, not the result they were all hoping for, but was a good means of practice for the other races to come in this popular four races series, which caters for both men and women.

If you’re interested in giving one of these races a go, which are held on closed roads, then do give your race secretaries, Richard or Josh a shout for more details.
