Joint Race Secretary Richard Santhouse, outlines his plans and hopes for the coming season
As we move into the 2023 racing season, I’d like to share some information about the ORRL and other race key events. The link at the bottom of the blog, takes you to the Banbury Stars racing availability chart for ORRL and selected races throughout the year. This will help plan the season ahead. Josh and I want to fill as many places as possible at each race to help promote the club in ORRL, improve riders racing craft and support local racing.
The ORRL, is series of races run under British Cycling regulations plus individual time trials (ITT) and team time trial (TTT). The league has successfully been running for a few years with each club taking turns host an ORRL race event. For the very first time Banbury Star CC will enter a men’s team to compete in the series, which incorporates our annual road race. The series also runs a women’s league, which is supported by guest teams throughout the season, it would be great to enter a Banbury Stars women’s team in the future.
The men’s road races are classified as Regional B, all riders must hold full British Cycling racing licence or a Day licence classified as Men’s 3rd and 4th Category. All clubs entered into the ORRL will get priority entry for 6-9 riders (depending on the field size) including 4-8 juniors.
The team with the highest placed 3 riders in the top 10 ORRL finishers of a road race will be awarded 5 bonus points. If no team has 3 riders in the top 10 ORRL placings, then no bonus points will be awarded. The men’s and women’s team rankings are based on the aggregate points scored by riders from each club, plus the points from the TTT.
There will be a shield presented to the winning men’s and women’s teams at the end of the season. There will be prizes awarded to the top three ranked individual men and women riders based on points earned.
Below is the current ORRL race calendar:
