Our club juniors are a very keen bunch of racers and none more so at the moment than 17 year old, Cat 2 rider, Poppy Kisley. On Thursday night she was back at the regular venue of Milton Keynes Bowl, to compete in race number 12 in the King and Queen of the Bowl Criterium Series.
The event she entered this time was for Cat E/1/2/3/4 riders, which was for 45 minutes plus 3 laps of the oval Milton Keynes Bowl Circuit. The race was run at the same time as the Cat 4 men’s race, but run as two separate races. Conditions were not favourable, with continual rain for the whole race and a slight breeze.
Poppy positioned herself in a break of three riders after about 3 laps. These three riders caught up with the men’s race and rode with them for the majority of the race, resulting in them lapping the remainder of the women’s field. At the start of the penultimate lap, Poppy attacked with one other lady, breaking away from the men. They raced together for the last two laps where Poppy out sprinted her on the finish line to take her first win as a Junior.
This excellent result helped extend Poppy’s lead at the top of the leaderboard for the Cat E/1/2/3/4 Series with only one more race to go. There is also another series at MK Bowl for Cat 2/3/4 riders and just to underline her current form, Poppy is currently placed second in that series.
