A great effort for the club on its return to the ORRL

The seventh and final round of the Oxfordshire Road Race League (ORRL), organised by Reading CC took place on Sunday. Whilst the league is primarily for road and crit races, it includes a TT, and this final round was a Hill Climb.

The 837-yard course, held on the B4009 at Streatley, was the National Hill Climb course in 2020 and was resurfaced in 2021. The course record is 2.04.8 and conditions for the day stayed dry.

Five Stars represented the club, Richard Santhouse, Josh Lovell, Nick Nixon, Hayley Holland and Peggy Simpkins. This is the club’s first foray into the ORRL for a few years and thanks to the efforts of our joint race secretaries, we’ve made quite an impact. Our annual road race and last weekend’s Festival of Racing have both been qualifying events and we’ve been in the top half of the leader board during the season.

A Five Star group – Peggy, Josh, Richard, Nick and Hayley

Sunday’s event, which attracted an entry of nearly 100 riders, was won by Harry MacFarlane (TAAP Endura) on 2.18.44, whilst our own second claim member Tobi Ng (Team PB Performance), was third on 2.27.48. Richard was 31st on 3.01.12, Nick 36th on 3.03.76 and Josh 49th on 3.22.56.

In the women’s category, Peggy finished an excellent 10th on 4.15.56 and fastest U18 woman, with Hayley 12th on 4.42.57.

Full results of this year’s ORRL have not yet been published, but we do know the club finished third in both the men’s and women’s league, whilst Nick Nixon was third overall in the men’s individual. A great result and well done to all the riders who have represented the club so well this year – lots of experience gained and more to achieve next season.
