Over the last couple of years, the club has seen an encouraging growth in both women and junior members, many with a keen interest in competition. To illustrate this welcome change, this year we were lucky to have three Banbury Star women members invited to collect awards at Cycling Time Trials (CTT) annual Champions Centenary Lunch.
The lunch and prize presentation took place on Saturday 14th January at Staverton Park Hotel, Daventry. This annual event celebrates the winners of the year’s National time trial events.
The occasion had two excellent guest speakers in Denise Burton, daughter of Beryl Burton OBE and also Michael Hutchinson, an ex-National Champion, broadcaster and Cycling Weekly writer.
Collecting awards were club juniors, Peggy Simpkins and Poppy Kisley, who both competed in the National Closed Circuit Time Trial Championships at Thruxton back in October 2022, finishing first and third respectively in the female junior’s event – both also winning their age category.

No surprise that Naomi de Pennington also collected an award. Naomi rode in the RTTC Road Bike Championships on the A25/34 course in March 2022, securing herself an excellent third place.
Well done to all – let’s see what 2023 brings.
